FāVS News is inviting donors to support independent, local journalism during its Local News Day fundraising campaign — and as a thank-you, they can receive a meaningful, thought-provoking book from one of its featured writers.
By becoming a monthly member at $5 or more, or making a one-time gift of at least $50 by April 9, donors will not only help sustain in-depth coverage of religion, spirituality and culture — they’ll also be eligible to choose from a limited selection of books donated by FāVS contributors and acclaimed authors.
This year’s lineup offers something for every reader. Religion journalist Julia Duin contributes “Days of Fire and Glory: The Rise and Fall of a Charismatic Community,” a compelling account of a Houston church’s dramatic growth and eventual scandal, told through decades of firsthand reporting.
If you enjoy historical fiction, bestselling novelist Sarah Woodbury Haug and a FāVS Baha’i columnist offers her e-book “Daughter of Time,” the first in her popular “After Cilmeri” series. Blending time travel, medieval Welsh history and romance, it’s an immersive escape rooted in rich cultural detail.
For readers drawn to personal journeys, Spokane author Sarah Henn Hayward shares her memoir “Giving Up God: Resurrecting an Identity of Love & Wonder.” The book thoughtfully explores her transition from evangelical Christianity to agnostic atheism.
It captures the emotional complexity of leaving faith while discovering a new sense of self — something she also examines in her FāVS columns and in the current FāVS Book Club, which is not too late to join. The group meets for the second time April 9 from 7-8 p.m. Registration is online.
Travel and reflection come together in FāVS Christian columnist Susie Leonard Weller’s “52 Global Reflections: A Pilgrim’s Travel Memoir.” Inspired by a lifetime of global exploration, Weller encourages readers to slow down, engage deeply with different cultures and embrace a broader sense of shared humanity.
FāVS News religion columnist Julie Ferraro is donating her newest book, “The Wee Book of How Not to be Beige: Drawn from the Wisdom of Billy Connolly.” Inspired by “Scotland’s favorite son,” it celebrates nonconformity and encourages readers to reject dull societal norms and embrace individuality.
Mitch and Kathy Finley are longtime FāVS Catholic columnists who write through their beloved Catholic lens. Both are also prolific published authors, and they have each donated three of their books — with deep roots in Catholic spirituality — to the fundraiser.
Every donation helps FāVS continue telling stories that matter — stories that foster understanding across beliefs and communities. In return, donors will receive a book that informs, challenges or inspires them.
Supplies are limited, so early giving ensures the best selection.
