Our writers have joined our Local News Day fundraising campaign by donating their books to give away to donors who become new members or make one-time gifts of at least $50. All week we will introduce you to them and explain why their books deserve a place on your shelf.

Meet Susie Leonard Weller. A Liberty Lake author, longtime FāVS columnist and self-described pilgrim, Weller has spent a lifetime traveling the world — not as a tourist, but as someone committed to being transformed by the places and people she encounters. She started writing her book at age 70, recovering from a mini-stroke and facing the possibility of a severe hemorrhage. The result is a remarkable memoir that is as much about inward journeys as outward ones.

Susie Leonard Weller donated this book:

52 Global Reflections: A Pilgrim’s Travel Memoir — Weller invites travelers to slow down, stay longer and go deeper — immersing themselves in a place for at least a week rather than bouncing from stop to stop. Organized around the four seasons of life and 13 worldwide sacred shrines, memorials and labyrinths, the book weaves together powerful reflection questions, Scripture and Weller’s own story of growth across a lifetime of global pilgrimage. From a kibbutz in Israel at 18 to a concentration camp in Germany to a monastic community in France, Weller’s journeys offer what Spokane author Cindy Hval calls “much-needed hope” in a world divided by politics, ideology and religion.

As Weller puts it: “It’s inviting you to become a world citizen, not just a United States citizen. We need to start collaborating with people who we once defined as our enemies but who must now become our allies in this fight for common humanity.”
