Become a FāVS Reporter

FāVS News is currently seeking experienced freelance reporters to cover the rich religious landscape of Eastern Washington and North Idaho. We aim to provide in-depth, thoughtful coverage of all faith traditions in the region, from breaking news to profiles to investigative pieces and more.

As a freelance reporter, you will have the opportunity to pitch and write stories on topics such as:

  • Trends, changes, and issues facing local religious communities
  • Profiles of interesting local clergy, faith leaders, and community members
  • Reviews of religious services and events
  • Examples of faith in action through community service
  • Interfaith partnerships, collaborations, and dialogue
  • Religious diversity in the region
  • The intersection of faith and other aspects of life

We are looking for reporters who have excellent writing skills, experience interviewing a wide range of sources, and a nuanced understanding of diverse religions. Knowledge of the local religious landscape is a plus. This is an outstanding opportunity to flex your reporting skills while covering a beat that impacts many lives.

Become a FāVS Columnist

We are currently seeking volunteer columnists from diverse religious backgrounds and perspectives for our publication. We aim to provide a platform for voices from all faiths and spiritual traditions, with a special interest in hearing from people in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Your unique perspective and knowledge can help further religious understanding and dialogue in our region. Columnists will have creative freedom to approach topics in their own voice. Become a FāVS Intern

FāVS News is looking for a journalism student in the Eastern Washington/North Idaho region interested in religion reporting to join our editorial team as a paid intern.

In this role, they will:

  • Pitch and report on local religion-focused news and feature stories
  • Interview religious leaders and community members
  • Cover religious events, conferences, and other happenings
  • Provide administrative and research support to the religion reporting team

To qualify, you should be working towards a bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications with an interest in covering faith and religion. Excellent writing, interviewing, and research skills are a must. Any experience writing for a campus newspaper or other student publication is preferred.

As a board member, you will play an instrumental role in overseeing and advising our publication as we provide nuanced news and storytelling around religion in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

Help us With Events

FāVS is seeking volunteers to help plan and execute engaging community events!

We host various events year-round, including speaker series, interfaith dialogues, fundraisers, and more. As an events volunteer, you may assist with:

  • Brainstorming fun and meaningful event themes and activities
  • Securing venues and managing vendor relationships
  • Developing attendee invitation lists and managing RSVPs
  • Overseeing day-of setup, registration, and logistics
  • Greeting attendees and helping facilitate events
  • Managing post-event follow up and thank you notes
