Somewhere in America, there is exactly one digital newsroom devoted entirely to local religion news. It’s here. It’s FāVS. And on April 9 — Local News Day — we’re asking you to help us keep going.
Our writers have joined our Local News Day fundraising campaign by donating their books to give away to donors who become new members or make one-time gifts of at least $50. All week we will introduce you to them and explain why their books deserve a place on your shelf.
Meet Mitch and Kathy Finley. Both are longtime FāVS columnists who write through their beloved Catholic lens — and both are prolific published authors with deep roots in Catholic spirituality.
Mitch Finley also contributes to our popular column series “Many Faiths. Endless Questions. Ask FāVS,” where he answers reader questions as “Ask a Catholic.”
Mitch Finley donated these books:
- “The True Meaning of Christmas by Santa”
- Santa recounts magical memories of Christmas, sharing tales of kindness, wonder, and tradition—from the Grinch to St. Francis—reminding readers of the holiday’s deeper, intangible gifts.
- “Whispers of God’s Love: Touching the Lives of Loved Ones After Death”
- Surveys indicate that as many as 50 percent of the population have felt the presence of a loved one who has died. Catholics, especially, have a strong belief in the communion of saints, and this collection of gentle stories will be a comforting reminder that at death, life is not ended but merely changed.
- “You Are My Beloved: Meditations on God’s Steadfast Love”
- In this book, Mitch Finley helps remind readers of the depth of God’s love for them, with each reflection in the book meant to serve as a daily reminder.
Kathy Finley donated these books:
- “Building a Christian Marriage: Eleven Essential Skills”
- A faith-based guide to strong marriages, offering practical strategies across key areas like communication, intimacy, finances, and spirituality to build resilience, growth, and lasting commitment.
- “Savoring God: Praying With All Our Senses”
- A creative prayer guide using everyday objects—like rocks or shoes—to encounter God. Through guided exercises, scripture, and reflection, it helps readers experience God’s presence in daily life.
- “Holy Together: Reflections on Married Spirituality”
- Explores Christian spirituality in marriage, showing how faith is lived daily. Highlights themes like grace and vocation to reveal the holiness in married life and ways to deepen it.
