The next writer we are featuring for our Local News Day fundraising campaign is Spokane author Sarah Henn Hayward. She is donating two copies of her book “Giving Up God: Resurrecting an Identity of Love & Wonder” to give away to donors who become new members or make one-time gifts of at least $50.
Hayward is a lifelong reader and writer whose work is deeply shaped by her personal journey out of faith, into loss and finally toward self-discovery. In her memoir, she chronicles her transition from a devout evangelical Christian to an agnostic atheist.
When she couldn’t find books that captured the emotional complexity of leaving faith — especially the grief intertwined with growth — she set out to write the story she needed herself.
Hayward contributes as a columnist for FāVS News, where she engages thoughtfully with spirituality, culture and marginalized perspectives. Her writing is characterized by curiosity, nuance and a commitment to honest exploration rather than persuasion.
FAVS Book Club readers will be discussing Hayward’s book starting Thursday, from 7-8 p.m., and each Thursday through April 30. It’s not too late to join the club! More information can be found online.
