November is Native American Heritage Month, an interesting if not complex time to celebrate Indigenous people. 

Being thankful really does change things. Because it’s a spiritual awareness, it’s pausing to recognize the good in our lives and all around us and learning to keep that perception at the forefront of our minds.

This year is thus the 400th anniversary of what became heralded as the First Thanksgiving.

Is it possible to give thanks when people are dying? Is it right to? The short answer is yes. In fact, I’d say it’s more important now than ever.

In any normal November, Spokane’s Union Gospel Mission would be planning a Thanksgiving for its residents that’s as close to home as most of them have been in a while.

I am going to write about all the things for which I am personally thankful this season and about all the things for which I think you should be thankful.
