FāVS News

First debuting as a “construction blog” in August 2011, FāVS News (then called Spokane Faith and Values) officially launched in spring 2012 as a gathering place for nonsectarian coverage of faith and values news from the Spokane area. The project was created through a generous grant to the site’s original owner, Religion News Foundation, from the Lilly Endowment. Now the site operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit news organization (SpokaneFāVS, DBA FāVS News), which is overseen by a board of directors.

Mission Statement

FāVS News informs and builds faith and non-faith community through digital journalism and online and offline engagement opportunities.

Values Statement

FāVS News believes in building community and in bridging divisions through independent, transparent journalism and commentary, and engagement that emphasizes inclusion, acceptance, understanding, and respect. We give voice to the widest range of belief traditions with a particular interest in those whose voices have been muted or ignored. We strive to be politically neutral but recognize the intersection of ethics and values in any discussion of religion, politics, and ideological diversity. We demonstrate a wide-ranging worldview but remain deeply rooted in our home, which is the Inland Northwest.

Vision Statement

FāVS News will be the primary place to articulate faith and nonfaith practices in the Inland Northwest in which divisions are healed and communities connected.

How can I become a FāVS writer?

We’re always looking for more writers! We ask our volunteer columnists to write six columns a year on any topic, issue, or current event they’d like. We’re happy to work with you on brainstorming ideas or polishing your writing. Columns may be edited for length or clarity, and in keeping with our non-sectarian mission, columns may not be used for proselytizing.

We are always looking for journalists, too, and pay our freelance journalists a per-story fee. If you’d like to volunteer to be a columnist or apply to be one of our news writers, just contact us!

How are you funded?

We are funded through grants, donations, memberships and sponsorships. We hope you’ll consider supporting us!

Is FāVS News religiously affiliated?
