Every year Ramadan and Eid returns, so does the suffering of the people of Palestine return. The people of Gaza have been amidst famine throughout the holiest month of Ramadan. Meanwhile I and many fellow Muslims around the globe will be celebrating the end of Ramadan with gifts, families, friends and feasts.

Eid Al Adha, translates to “Feast of the Sacrifice,” is one of two major Islamic holidays that is observed annually.

Muslim Americans will gather today (July 17) to celebrate Eid al-Fitr to mark the end of the month-long Ramadan.

Seema Imam, a professor of education at National Louis University in Chicago, jokes that she wouldn’t mind if schools closed for the Islamic holidays of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.
