One of my favorite pictures is of retired mixed martial artist Genki “The Neo Samurai” Sudo, holding a large banner with all of the flags in the world. At the center of the banner are the words “We Are All One.”
Whenever I see people, ordinary citizens and civil servants, rush to help people during a moment of tragedy, I think of Sudo’s words. We are all one race, and when we see our brothers and sisters hurting, we do what we can to help them. What happened in Boston yesterday is no different. Even in the brink of chaos, there were many who came together to help the victims.
We may come from different backgrounds, but we still manage to put aside our differences to help each other. Even when it seems like our own selfish interests get the best of us, we will step out of our comfort zone and lend a hand. It is a shame that it takes a terrible thing like the bombings in Boston to motivate us into taking action, but it is better than not doing anything at all.
I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all of the responders — or for that matter, anyone who has take the time to help anyone who was affected by the explosions. I also want to thank anyone who has taken time to say prayers for the people in Boston and ask that they continue to pray for those who are in need.
