The Gonzaga Center of the Study of Hate may not exist when students return to campus this fall. The Center sits in a budgetary unknown due to a “Grand Challenge” strategic planning process implemented by Provost Sacha Kopp that has yet to be finalized and announced.

The 7th International Conference on Hate Studies will take place in Spokane April 20-22. “The Challenges of Hate in the 21st Century” is this year’s conference theme. The deadline to register is April 10.

The Gonzaga Center for the Study of Hate is inviting people to share their work to counter hate and promote hope by submitting a proposal to present at the 7th International Conference on Hate Studies. The theme for proposals is “Challenges of hate in the 21st century.” The conference will be held from April 20 - 22, 2023.

Travis McAdam, a Montana-based activist whose efforts to combat white supremacy and other forms of hate have generated regional, national and global impact, and a Spokane-based organization, Muslims for Community Action and Support (MCAS), are this year’s winners of the Eva Lassman “Take Action Against Hate” Awards presented by the Gonzaga University Center for the Study of Hate.

Holocaust survivor and Spokane resident Carla Peperzak will join several Gonzaga University historians and representatives of Seattle’s Holocaust Center for Humanity to present “Remembering Our Past to Inform Our Future” tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Hemmingson Ballroom.

The Gonzaga Institute of Hate Studies is seeking nominations for the Eva Lassman Take Action Against Hate Awards, which celebrate the everyday and extraordinary heroes who can inspire others all with their actions.

Next month, Gonzaga University will host its 5th International Conference on Hate Studies. The conference intends to bring several researchers and thought leaders to help find ways for the community to combat hate and promote human rights and justice in their neighborhoods.
