Today, International Day of Peace, is a day that I don’t believe is honored enough. There are people that will not support peace unless it comes on their terms. This I don’t understand.

I spent time as a marine in Vietnam and participated in “at sea” burials and, for the life of me, I can’t understand anyone that would not support the idea of world peace. It would end the violence that is tragic, for not only the victim, but also the perpetrator. Just talk to the vets coming home today. They are hurt to the very soul by what they saw and experienced in a war theater. There are many Vietnam vets whose lives have come to a tragic end, long after the battles were over. Many World War II vets , also, waited until the very end of their lives to speak of the horror and violence they were a part of and did not want to bring it home to their families.

Take time in your day and see where you can bring an end to violence, even if in your own mind. As Jesus the Christ taught, “Love thy neighbor.”

Peace begins and ends within the individual.
