Yule will be celebrated by Wiccans and many other Pagans in the Northern Hemisphere on Dec. 21, the day of the winter solstice. For Pagans, the shortest day of the year marks the end of the descent into darkness and the beginning of the return of the light.
In college, I realized that I’m Pagan. Pagan worship revolves around many cyclical patterns: times of the day, phases of the moon, and seasons of the year.
Do you know the significance of Solstice? Many don’t, or have a little understanding of it — placing the whole matter in the realm of pagan non-significance.
A winter solstice celebration will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall, Spokane, on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
The celebration, according to a news release, includes a candlelight service of Christian communion with Celtic prayers and readings focusing on the presence of Christ’s light in all things.
