It ended almost seven decades ago and remaining survivors are few, which is why on Thursday the Spokane community paused to remember the horrors of the Holocaust and reflect upon the importance of educating students about it.

Gonzaga University made national headlines last week after protestors submitted a petition to the school, claiming the institution had lost sight of its Catholic values by inviting Archbishop Desmond Tutu to speak at next month’s commencement, where he will be presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Today outside of City Hall, the Rev. Jim CastroLang will read a proclamation from local clergy supporting gay marriage.

"Today, I stand with 18 area religious leaders along with citizens and elected officials from the many neighborhoods of our city, who say to the Spokane City Council: vote yes for the Marriage Equality Resolution”, CastroLang said in a press release.

Rev. Stephen Supica took an icon of Jesus off the cross and tenderly wrapped it in white linen on Holy Friday as his church reflected on the trial and crucifixion of its Lord.
