The Eastern Washington Legislative Conference will take place Jan. 25. There, faith leaders and community advocates gather to shape their 2025 legislative priorities, including social justice and environmental restoration.

It is an outrageous political stunt. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis chartering planes to fly immigrants who had just crossed the U.S. border from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard and other locations described as “sanctuary states.”

This drastic shift in policies has left thousands of people living in the fear of being deported. As a result, even some of the most sacred observances are being abandoned.

The Evangelical Immigration Table commissioned the documentary “The Stranger” to foster evangelical support for immigration reform. Linda Midgett, a graduate of evangelical Wheaton College who produced the 40-minute film, told Religion News Service she hopes ongoing screenings across the country will build a groundswell of support for legislation.

We are a nation of immigrants, as the saying goes. Despite this obvious fact, we resist tooth and nail the implementation of anything approaching a humane immigration system.

Today until 5:30 p.m. a handful of women from across Eastern Washington will be fasting at Riverfront Park to demonstrate to Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers that "she must act immediately to end family separations and bring fair immigration reform to a vote in the House."

Members of the Fast 4 Families Across America Bus Tour will stop in Spokane on Thursday to give a presentation and hold a press conference on immigration reform and pathways to citizenship.
