Ask A Mormon: Can you be baptized after death?

Mormons believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). He loves all of his children, regardless of when or where they were born. We also believe that baptism, and the covenants we make at baptism, are stepping stones on the path to salvation and exaltation.

Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori

The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, will tour ecumenical mission projects in the Yakama Indian Reservation, Dec. 8, and preach at St. John’s Cathedral in Spokane Dec. 9.

Jefferts Schori and The Rt. Rev. James E. Waggoner, Jr., bishop of the Diocese of Spokane, will tour Noah’s Ark homeless shelter and the Campbell Farm in Wapato, and visit other ecumenical partners in White Swan, whose collaborative work last year included bringing aid, partially funded by Episcopal Relief and Development, to victims of the White Swan fire. Bishop Jefferts Schori and Bishop Waggoner will also join other community and congregational leaders at the Toppenish United Methodist Church, an ecumenical partner in mission with Christ Episcopal Church in Zillah.

“It is an honor to have our Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori visit, and we welcome the opportunity to share with her firsthand the range of vital ministries across the Diocese, in Eastern Washington and North Idaho,” said Waggoner. “As Presiding Bishop and Primate, she brings invaluable insight, wisdom, and vision to the Church from the local to the international context. Bishop Jefferts Schori is widely known and respected as a gifted teacher and preacher who consistently voices the Gospel’s prophetic call to justice and compassion for all. It will be a very special privilege to have her with us.”

On Dec. 9 Jefferts Schori will speak at Spokane’s St. John’s Cathedral Morning Forum at 9 a.m. and preach and celebrate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. She will speak on the topic of science and religion at the morning forum. These services are open to the public.
