This weekend protestors gathered outside a new bar in town, called the Daiquiri Factory, because it has questionable drink names – like Date Grape.
Blogger Blaine Stum says the drink name promotes victim blaming and rape culture. Do you agree?

Way to encourage rape culture. Your lack of empathy towards rape victims is disgusting and the way you have ran from the media shows what cowards you truly are!!!!!!
Listen people don’t get crazy cause that will bring attention to this product. DON’T SHOP AT THE SUPERMARKET OR THE CONVENIENCE STORE OR GAS STATION OR ANYWHERE IT IS SOLD. WHEN THE OWNER OF THE GAS STATION, CONVENIENCE STORE OR SUPERMARKET SEE PEOPLE PEACEFULLY MARCHING AROUND THE BUILDINGS THAT ARE CARRYING THIS SWILL THEY WILL STOP SHOPPING THERE AND WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IS HIT THE PROPRIETOR IN THEIR WALLETS…YOU MUST CARRY SIGNS BUT GET THE PERMITS TO DO SO AND MAKE IT PEACEFUL. GOOD LUCK
I have read some thoughtful discussions of this issue, including one by a friend who suggests that there are racial overtones to this issue that I may not see. I am open to trying to understand that however. I simply would not feel safe visiting an establishment that considers it a funny joke to call a drink Date Grape Koolaid. That suggests a culture of the business and patrons that would put me at risk.
I’m curious if an establishment that celebrates rap & hip/hop culture which historically is known for its trashy, objectification of women, might be one reason they don’t see this as an issue.
