“Micah” was the name we chose for our last child and the inspiration came from one of my favorite chapters in the Bible:
Micah 4:1-5
“In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house
will be the highest of all—
the most important place on earth.
It will be raised above the other hills,
and people from all over the world will stream there to worship.
People from many nations will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of Jacob’s God.
There he will teach us his ways,
and we will walk in his paths.”
For the Lord’s teaching will go out from Zion;
his word will go out from Jerusalem.
The Lord will mediate between peoples
and will settle disputes between strong nations far away.
They will hammer their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will no longer fight against nation,
nor train for war anymore.
Everyone will live in peace and prosperity,
enjoying their own grapevines and fig trees,
for there will be nothing to fear.
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies
has made this promise!
Though the nations around us follow their idols,
we will follow the Lord our God forever and ever.”
My hope is that the prophetic nature of this portion of scripture will provide purpose and power in helping my son navigate his God-directed destiny. I pray its truth would shape his spirit-breathed vision and dreams of the future and inform his steps in the present.
In a time when many young people are raised with no deep roots to the ancient and sacred faith, I think parents can proclaim truth to future generations through prayerful and purposeful choices in naming their children.
God has chosen a name and will reveal it to those who overcome this present age and enter the next as victorious over the world, the flesh and the devil through the grace and faith in The Lord Jesus Christ.
“Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it,” Revelations 2:17.
I think parents should seek to listen to the Holy Spirit when choosing the name of their child, maybe God would inform us what he wants that gift of life to be named?
