From the beaches of Athens to the dense vegetation of the jungle, adventures await in Vacation Bible Schools across Spokane. Activities include crafts, music, games, religious lessons, and, at one church with an animal cracker theme, a blessing of people’s pets.

Community United Methodist Church, Coeur d'Alene
Date: July 8 through July 12
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Ages: Children entering grades one through five
Theme: The focus is on a mission that the kids can contribute to: Heifer International. The theme is animal crackers. On Friday, there will be a petting zoo. On Saturday, there will be a blessing of the animals. Everyone will be able to bring their pets, whether in a trailer or a fishbowl.

Opportunity Presbyterian Church, Spokane Valley

Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Ages: This program is family based. Children up to age three can be in the nursery. Children from preschool up to fifth-grade can do the activities. Children going into sixth-grade through eight-grade can participate in the leadership program and help as leaders under adult supervision. High schoolers can be involved in leadership.
