Clothes, mini-refrigerators, TV sets. College students rid themselves of a vast amount of clutter each year and Gonzaga University Housing and Residence Life is expanding its “Zagiving” program, now in its third year, to ensure more Spokane families benefit from students’ donated goods. Zagiving is a partnership with the Spokane Community Warehouse, a program of Catholic Charities Spokane.
According to a press release Zagiving is expanding from four to seven days during Gonzaga’s final week of school, May 8-14. Seven portable storage units – PODS – will be placed around Gonzaga’s campus for students to donate useful items they no longer need. The PODS are donated by Spokane PODS. Last spring, Zagiving collected 40,000 pounds of material to benefit more than 350 families.
For off-campus students, Spokane Community Warehouse trucks will visit the Logan Neighborhood May 13-14 and May 29-30 to pick up second-hand goods left outside and labeled “For Zagiving.” Last year, off-campus pick-ups occurred on only one day. To arrange for a pick-up, GU students must call (509) 991-9345.
