She writes for The Daily Evergreen, the school's newspaper and is president of English Club. Puneet loves to write about important stories revolving around multicultural communities and wants to continue doing that after she graduates. New Catalyst Project Aims to Be ‘Somewhere Between Emergency Shelter and Permanent Independent Housing’

The Catalyst Project is Spokane’s newest emergency housing program with the number of occupants rising. The Catalyst opened its doors on Dec. 8 and is run by Catholic Charities, a non-profit organization, said Dawn Kinder, chief stabilization officer of the Catalyst Project. The building is located in the downtown area of Spokane.

Visiting Spokane’s Synagogue

After Kanye West’s prejudiced remarks about Jewish people made waves on the internet, anti-semitism has been on the rise, with The Washington Post reporting that a majority of Americans Jews are fearful of violence against them. This is why I believe it was important that our next field trip for the Religion Reporting Project was to the Spokane synagogue called Temple Beth Shalom.

When Chellappa Deva met Sat Guru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami in 1968, he was inspired by the gurudeva’s teachings and has followed him ever since. Now, Deva is a devout Hindu and writes about his faith through SpokaneFāVS. 

My Trip to the Spokane Islamic Center

My experience at the Islamic Center was very enlightening, and I was grateful to be able to learn about the faith and customs in person. I believe if people want to learn about Islam they can go to a masjid to do so because it feels like a welcoming space.

My family’s Sikh religion

I grew up in a Punjabi household while living in one of the whitest towns in California. I was raised knowing and believing in Sikhism. I spent Sundays going to the gurdwara, a place of worship for Sikhs, and learning about the history from my uncles and dad.
