Once a month, a group gathers at West Central Abbey in Spokane for Vinyl Lounge. It’s led by Tim Martin, the Abbey’s music steward. Each meeting, he chooses a vinyl LP, sets up a turntable and speakers in the church’s sanctuary, puts out snacks and plays the album for those who are gathered.
After listening, the group discusses the album and its spiritual implications.
At the last Vinyl Lounge, they listened to an album from the black metal band, Liturgy. Martin said they’ve listened to many types of records in the year they’ve been doing it.
Listen in as Martin joins the Religion Desk to discuss what he does as West Central Abbey’s music steward and how the gathering discusses the spiritual connections in the music they hear.
The public can join them at the next Vinyl Lounge on Sept. 18.
