For 25 years, St. Louis University has been led by the Rev. Lawrence Biondi. And for nearly two centuries, it has been led by Biondi’s Roman Catholic order, the Jesuits.

Soon, it may be led by neither.

Bart D. Ehrman, author of "Misquoting Jesus," "Jesus Interrupted" and other New York Times bestsellers will be speaking in Spokane later this month.

His free lecture, sponsored by Eastern Washington University and the Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation, will be at 6:30 p.m., May 23

The Whitworth Choir will tour Norway for two weeks, beginning May 20. The students will perform at Oslo Cathedral, Roros Church, Trondheim’s Our Lady’s Church, Egersund Church and the Stavanger Cathedral, which is the oldest cathedral in Norway, dating back to the 12th century.

Geshe Phelgye blesses a peace pole that he gifted to Gonzaga University.

An 8-foot-tall cedar peace pole, with a prayer for harmony emblazoned in four languages, has sprouted from the grassy lawn behind College Hall at Gonzaga University.

Venerable Geshe Phelgye, Gonzaga’s first scholar in residence and a Tibetan Buddhist monk, gifted the pole to the university in a formal ceremony Monday as a way to thank the school for its Jesuit mission of service and promotion of peace and social justice.

Venerable Geshe Thupten Phelgye, Gonzaga University’s Global scholar in residence, will gift a Peace Pole to Gonzaga in a special installation and blessing ceremony that begins at 3 p.m., May 6 on the lawn behind College Hall.

“I would like to offer a Peace Pole to Gonzaga University for its institutional birthday celebrating the 125th anniversary of living out the Jesuit educational mission of the service of faith in the promotion of peace and social justice,”

Chris Stedman, author of "Faitheist," visited Eastern Washington University and the Compassionate Interfaith Society on Monday to talk about the importance of atheists and theists working together for the common good.
