The Spokane chapter of the NAACP and Spokane Community Against Racism (SCAR) will lead a vigil at 7 p.m. Monday (Sept. 25) for the killing of Bjorn Manycolors by Spokane County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
While evaluation studies have shown that many drug courts reduce recidivism, studies have also found that they have widened the net of the criminal justice system; bringing people under its control who would otherwise not be there.
Efforts to reform Spokane's criminal justice system are under way. The Smart Justice Spokane Community Symposium will be held Saturday (Nov. 15) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gonzaga University School of Law.
The Spokane Regional Criminal Justice Commission’s “Blueprint for Reform” was presented in a private meeting to Spokane Mayor Condon, County Commissioner Mielke and Spokane City Council President Stuckart earlier this month.
