Ask A Mormon: Can you be baptized after death?

Mormons believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). He loves all of his children, regardless of when or where they were born. We also believe that baptism, and the covenants we make at baptism, are stepping stones on the path to salvation and exaltation.

Ask A Mormon: Do Mormons believe they will become gods?

Latter-day Saints believe that every life — our spirits, our souls, the essence of who we are — is eternal.

Are Mormons Preppers? Why and where and for how long do they stockpile goods? Why is this, is there an eschatological reason?

It’s been six months since I last wrote a religion wrap-up. In that six months, though, I’ve watched our traffic climb higher and higher, so thought I’d give it another go. Spokane is a wellspring of religion news and although we do our best to report it all to you, there’s not enough time in the week to report everything. Here are some bits we thought you might at least want to know about.

It’s not uncommon for churches to have outdoor worship services during the summer. Eastpoint Church will be having its outdoor service on Aug. 25. Bring you lawn chairs at 11 a.m. to Liberty Lake Pavillion Park for worship, baptisms and food.

Also on Aug. 25, Unity Spiritual Center Spokane will bid farewell to the Rev. Clare Austen who, after 12 years, will be leaving the congregation. The church will be celebrating her at an 11:30 a.m. service that day.

I may as well throw in one more thing that’s happening on the 25th.  Yours truly will be speaking about Spokane’s faith seen for both services at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane that Sunday. Consider this my personal invitation to come hear me.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Financial Peace University. It’s just like it sounds, only with a slight twist. Not only do you learn how to better manage your money, you learn how to do it “God’s way.” Life Center will be hosting Financial Peace University soon and orientation is Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Spokane First Assembly of God is hosting free outdoor movies this summer. And who doesn’t love an outdoor movie? The movies are every Saturday at dusk (that’s tomorrow!). Snacks are provided and the church promises to show family-friendly films only.

I’ll leave you with this. Valley Assembly in Spokane Valley is having a barbecue at 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at Terrace View Park. It’s an opportunity to meet staff and leaders from the church and learn what the congregation is all about.

If you go to any of these, have fun, and don’t forget to tell them you heard about it from SpokaneFAVS!
