Happy 2013! That is, assuming you don't think 13 is unlucky. The reasons people think this are endless. In Christianity, 13 is considered fateful because there were supposedly 13 people at the Last Supper. But, apparently, it’s going to be a big year for weddings. It’s cheaper to get married in year ending in 13, ya’ know.
Anyway, your Spokane Faith & Values team thinks it’s going to be an excellent year and we’re kicking it off in a big way. Tomorrow at 10 a.m. we’re having our first “Coffee Talk” at Chairs Coffee where we’ll discuss faith, God and the Newtown shooting. Join five our writers in this roundtable discussion. We hope to make these gatherings a monthly event. Please join us!
Maybe you want to start the new year by centering spiritually, you may want to check out the list of upcoming retreats at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center. The center has four planned between now and March, starting with Awaken my Heart Jan. 11.
If you want to know more about Spokane’s Pagan community, check out this website. Perusing it for only a few minutes you’ll find about upcoming meetings, news about a new Pagan bookstore and new local groups. We were excited to learn about this page from one of our readers. Send us your pages at [email protected] so we can keep tabs on what your faith group is doing, too.
Finally, we’re curious what you think about the homeless campers getting the boot. Perhaps you’ve seen them downtown under the Interstate 90 viaduct. About 50 people are living there and the city has given them 24 hours to get out. Do you support this, or think it’s cruel? Share your thoughts below.
