By Eric Blauer

This Independence Day I’m grateful that my ancestors came to America on the Mayflower; fleeing religious persecution for the freedoms of worship and personal conscience.

I’m proud to have family that fought in the Revolutionary War, eventually throwing off oppressive governmental power and establishing a Constitution and Bill of Rights of unprecedented liberty for the individual.

I’m thankful to my cousin, son-in-law and dear friends who have taken their place in military service in a time of global war on terrorists. Our freedoms and your sacrifices will never be forgotten in my home.

I’m thankful for our founding leaders who understood the difference between laws that protect freedoms vs. granting  freedoms.

I’m proud to be an American and I’ll show that pride by opposing any power, institution, party or person who would seek to destroy, dismantle or demonize this great country.

Samuel Adams:

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”

A hearty amen to Mr. Adams and I’ll eat a hotdog, drink a PBR, fly my flag, play some country music in my truck and pray to God for the freedom of all in honor and memorial to our founding leaders and this great country.

God bless America!

I am Frederick Christian Blauer IV, but I go by Eric, it sounds less like a megalomaniac but still hints at my Scandinavian destiny of coastal conquest and ultimate rule. I have accumulated a fair number of titles: son, brother, husband, father, pastor, writer, artist and a few other more colorful titles by my fanged fans. I am a lover of story be it heard, read or watched in all beauty, gory or glory. I write and speak as an exorcist or poltergeist, splashing holy water, spilling wine and breaking bread between the apocalypse and a sleeping baby. I am possessed by too many words and they get driven out like wild pigs and into the waters of my blog at www.fcb4.tumblr.com. I work as a pastor at Jacob's Well Church (www.jacobswellspokane.com) across the tracks on 'that' side of town. I follow Christ in East Central Spokane among saints, sinners, angels, demons, crime, condoms, chaos, beauty, goodness and powerful weakness. I have more questions than answers, grey hairs than brown, fat than muscle, fire than fireplace and experience more love from my wife, family and friends than a man should be blessed with in one lifetime.

There’s a certain dide of me that gets tired of the $5 bucks for a cup of coffee or the beer niche market mania. At some point it all starts feeling like a schtick for a bad meme. Let’s boil hot water that’s free, find some beans and pour them through a sock or something and call it somebtrendy name and sell it for enough money to buy you a weeks worth of can coffee. The whole thing sometimes seems ludicrous. I like a good craft beer too but sometimes a cold one is a cold one.

I feel ya. There’s something nostalgic about a good, cold PBR 🙂

Very powerful. No wonder they named a beer after him! (He still preferred PBR …duh won a blue ribbon)

Here’s to the ‘United’ States and all PBR fans. Salute!
