Simple action, I took out the garbage this morning. In that moment the greyness was broken by a spectacular sunrise, I stopped and allowed it to wash over me and then went inside for a cup of coffee. I stepped out on the front porch and it was gone. Life can be fleeting, but by being present and savoring each moment it becomes rich and full.
Life is in the moment.
Richness is in the heart.
So often I think we run through our lives skipping over the real beauty and wonder that is all around us, whether we are city or country dwellers. We look forward to the weekend or take seminars to enrich our lives so that we may experience someone else’s mystical experience. We forget “my life is enough” in this moment. May it become more…richer, fuller, magical and mystical? Yes…absolutely! This becoming begins all too often with the acknowledgement that my life is good right now.
There is only one president, pope, or Dalai Lama, so I may simply live in their shadow and act as a “wanna be” or I may stand in the greatness that my life is in this moment. I can do really weird things to get my moment of fame on the Internet, or I may simply learn to deeply love and value those around me and, therefore, beyond the moment, make a difference in their lives.
It is in the choices I make in any given moment that allows me to either stretch into my greatness or merely “rest on my laurels.” It is by accepting my own greatness that I am able to view others as great…to view them as having greatness…awaiting the sunshine of their spirit.
If we choose to be in the body of Christ, then we stand in nobody’s shadow. In Christ our lives are eternal. This world itself is only an imprint of God’s creativity through his son, Jesus.
In our tradition the world is the physical manifestation of the Eternal and therefor I agree in principle if not wording. Of course we stand in no one’s shadow, but few realize that.
