The traditional Anglican Service of Nine Lessons and Carols will be presented on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist.

The Anglican tradition of Nine Lessons & Carols, synonymous with King’s College Cambridge’s annual Christmas broadcast, includes carols, anthems and readings of the prophecies foretelling the coming of Christ.

St John’s Cathedral Choir, conducted by Music Director  Timothy Westerhaus, will sing “Jesus Christ, the Apple Tree” by Oregon composer Stanford Scriven. Anthems by Vaughan Williams and Howells will expand the images surrounding the birth of Jesus.  The choir will also sing Finnish composer, Arvo Pärt’s “Bogóroditse dyévo”, the words of the Ave Maria, in Russian.

The Cathedral Junior Choir, under the direction of Tamara Schupman, will sing Schram’s “Waiting, Wandering, Wondering,” and “Children Get Ready” by Lynn Bailey and Becki Mayo.

An instrumental trio comprised of flautist, Clara Mannino, Margaret Wilds, Horn and Cheryl Carney, Cello will play throughout the one-hour service.

All are welcome.
