YWCA Spokane invites the community to attend its annual Stand Against Racism event Friday, (April 26) from 11:30 a.m – 1 p.m at Empire Health Foundation’s Philanthropy Center, 1020 W Riverside Ave. in Spokane.
Since 2015, the GoodGuys, in coordination with Spokane’s YWCA, has raised funds and awareness of the issues of domestic violence in local communities. Co-founder Doug Kelley started the group with encouragement from his fiancé who was involved in the YWCA’s Little Black Dress event.
The upcoming Health Beauty Spa Show will benefit the YWCA’s Alternatives to Domestic Violence Program. Included will also be a food and hygiene supply drive for the Women’s Safe Shelter and a portion of the net show proceeds will benefit program which helps women escape domestic abuse.
Spokane County has the second-highest rate of domestic violence in the state of Washington, according to a Spokane County press release. On Thursday elected officials, law enforcement, emergency responders, service providers and community leaders will discuss the increase of domestic violence cases in the region and how the community can respond, during a Leadership Symposium on Domestic Violence.
