BRIEF: Abbey to offer online Buddhism course

Sravasti Abbey Friends Education (SAFE), an online, distance learning program, will resume classes September 10.

Three courses are being offered:  Introducing the Buddha’s Teaching, Renunciation and Bodhicitta.

The Friends of Sravasti Abbey will be holding a rummage sale at Unity Church Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Monies earned will go toward the abbey's grocery fund.

BRIEF: Abbey to celebrate Dharma Day Aug. 5

Venerable Thubten Chodron, abbess and founder of Sravasti Abbey, will give a talk on "Selflessness" at Sharing the Dharma Day, Aug. 5, at the abbey.

The program begins at 9:45 and newcomers are welcomed, according to a press release.

BRIEF: Sravasti Abbey to host open house

On June 16 Sravasti Abbey, the Buddhist monastery outside of Newport, will host an open house for visitors to tour the property and meet abbey residents.

The abbey's five ordained nuns, including Venerable Thubten Chodron, founder of the abbey, will be available to visit with guests during the event.

Sravasti Abbey in Newport invites all you 20-somethings to explore Tibetan Buddhism from June 8-15. The course, Buddhist Community for Young Adults, includes meditation, teachings, Dharma discussions and, “a chance to work outdoors in beautiful gardens, meadows, and woodlands in northeastern Washington,” according to the abbey.

BRIEF: Buddhist retreat focuses on facing death

From May 25-28 Sravasti Abbey will offer a retreat called "Precious Life, Facing Death."

Venerable Tenzin Kacho, who has been a Tibetan nun for 25 years, will lead the class.
