COVID: The View From the Porch

The COVID quarantine meant no travel, no outings, no dinner out, no overnight company or even dinner guests. The world was reduced to our small home on the South Hill and to our wonderful front porch.

Now that we can empathize with victims of solitary confinement, let’s work to end it

While the isolation that many of us are facing during the Covid-19 pandemic is relatively minor, perhaps it can allow us to empathize with victims of this cruel practice and lead to tangible change in prison practices.

This unanticipated season of life has pushed me to consider the meaning and value of solitude, a practice that is revered across numerous belief systems.
