As we mourn the dead, once again, this time in Paris, we are pitched into sadness and even a sense of defeat. Humanity is at war with one another and we are hard pressed to see a way out.

In some of his strongest remarks on the subject to date, President Barack Obama on Monday (Nov. 16) denounced calls for a religious test for refugees and immigrants, saying: “That’s shameful. That’s not American. That’s not who we are.”

Gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, a concert hall and a sports stadium at locations across Paris on Friday, killing at least 120 people
