The Presbytery of the Inland Northwest and the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane are recipients of almost $2 million in grant funding from the Lilly Endowment’s Thriving Congregations Initiative.

Though the Rev. Gen Heywood doesn’t call herself a leader, she’s become a leading voice in support of inclusion and against extremism in the Inland Northwest.

Whitworth University is one of 77 organizations that received a Lilly Endowment grant through their Christian Parenting and Caregiving Initiative.

The new endeavor, announced Nov. 30, will make $75 million available to help Christian pastors, “strengthen their abilities to proclaim the Gospel in more engaging and effective ways.”

A $294,415 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. will establish the Gonzaga University Theology Institute for High School Youth.

Whitworth University has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to fund a new comprehensive church engagement initiative called The Ekklesia Project.
