Family Promise of Spokane, a nonprofit serving local homeless, will unveil an artist’s rendition of the Spokane Alphabet during a special ceremony at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (The MAC) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The exhibit was created by Seattle artist Melinda Curtin.
Curtin designed city alphabets for several communities including Seattle, Tacoma and Portland. According to a press release, Family Promise Executive Director Steve Allen met Curtin at ARTFest last May and invited her to create a Spokane Alphabet’ as a fundraiser for the Spokane charity.
Family Promise of Spokane recently started a creative venture called “Art for a Home” to financially support the work done to help local families never experience homelessness again.
“We are pleased to welcome Melissa to Spokane again to unveil her work,” said Allen in a press release. “Because underwriters have funded the expenses, all of the proceeds of the sale of this art will be used to assist homeless families with children in Spokane County.”
An exclusive agreement has been signed to paint and sell prints of the Spokane Alphabet to benefit Family Promise of Spokane.
Spokane icons are featured in the various windows of the art work.
The original painting will be raffled and prints will be sold to assist Family Promise of Spokane. All attending the Thursday night unveiling ceremony will receive an opportunty to win a limited edition copy of the print.
