On Wednesday evening members of Temple Beth Shalom and Congregation Emanu-El came together to celebrate the final night of Hanukkah.
About 150 people attended the festivities, which included games for children, prayer, a traditional Jewish meal and a communal lighting of the final Hanukkah candle. The Hanukkah party was organized by the Hadassah Chapter of Spokane.
“It’s an amazing vision,” said Rabbi Tamar Malino as she looked out at the dozens of lit menorahs, “to see all the light we’re bringing into the world.”
Hanukkah is an eight-day holiday that celebrates the Maccabees’ victory over the Syrians in the second century B.C. For the first time since 1888, Hanukkah began on Thanksgiving this year.
