Humans are not one-sided beings; we have emotional, spiritual and physical aspects that affect each other directly. If I am over-tired physically, my emotional state suffers which in turn affects my spiritual life and health.  In order to keep my faith journey centered I need to maintain both my physical and emotional selves.

For me play can mean physical play such as baseball or walking the dog, while emotional play can mean laughing with a friend or a funny movie or TV show. I find that when I allow myself to dwell too long on sad or tragic events there is a direct effect on my mood and spiritual life. Luckily for me, my work provides me with an almost endless source of humor, so I do not fall into the “all work and no play makes Jan a dull girl” trap.
