Following Jesus beyond church walls | June 11 | Online Christian

The Rev. Chantal McKinney’s new book “Following Jesus Beyond Church Walls: A Catalyst for Your Spiritual Growth” takes readers on a grounded journey of lament, healing and spiritual discovery. 

McKinney explores aspects of following Jesus that have been suppressed in patriarchal Christian culture, leading to an inspiring and empowering vision of what the future church can become. 

The first virtual book group session took place June 4 from 4-5 p.m. Next meetings are scheduled for June 11 and 18 at the same time.

Lutherans across the border | June 14 | Langley, British Columbia Lutheran

The BC Synod and NW Washington Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are inviting Lutherans from both sides of the border to come together for an afternoon of food, friendship and fun. While borders may separate countries, the Across the Border Friendship Gathering celebrates the shared mission and unity that connect people across them. 

Guests will enjoy a picnic filled with stories, laughter, and opportunities to meet Lutheran friends from neighboring communities. The event will take place from 2-5 p.m. at the beautiful Old Orchard Picnic Area in Campbell Valley Regional Park.

Registration is required by June 14, so organizers can reserve additional space if needed. Participants are reminded not to bring fresh fruits or vegetables across the border.

A peaceful afternoon at the retreat center | June 14 | Spokane Catholic

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center invites the community to its next Summertime Spiritual Moments program on Sunday, June 14, from 3-5 p.m.

This month’s theme, “Trust in God and Enjoy His Creation,” will be led by The Rev. David Kruse and offers participants a relaxing introduction to the retreat experience. The two-hour gathering begins with Mass and provides time for reflection, inspiration and spiritual renewal.

Guests can also enjoy refreshments and fellowship following the program. Admission is free, making it an easy opportunity to step away from the busyness of life and reconnect with faith and creation.

Culture, fashion and storytelling at Northtown Mall | June 6 | Spokane Community

Shades of Motherhood Network is opening Common Grounds, an Afrocentric boutique at Northtown Mall, on June 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than a retail shop, Common Grounds is designed as a space where culture, fashion and storytelling come together to honor Black history and strengthen community. The first 10 guests receive a complimentary Dear Sis Box valued at $25.

Proceeds support the Shades of Motherhood Network and community-centered initiatives in Spokane’s Health and Wellness District.

A nation consecrated: Sacred Heart livestream | June 11 | National Catholic
