On May 19 Bethany Presbyterian Church will host “Recovery from Spiritual Abuse: From Hurt to Healing”, a workshop designed to help those who have been harmed by authoritarian religious groups.
Lead by Karen Wanjico, the workshop will help participants understand the effects of belonging to “authoritarian religious groups” and offer ways to regain “personal agency,” according to a press release. It will also help participants move toward healing and forgiveness.
Wanjico grew up in a rigid religious home, an experience that led her to study cults. She has a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and currently works as a victim advocate. She's completed her memoir, “A Perfect Life,” which gives an internal look at how she changed her beliefs and moved into autonomy
There is no cost to attend, but participants are asked to contribute to the lunch that is provided. The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
RSVP by sending an email to [email protected].
