HELP WANTED: One-year-old, male, Golden Retriever wanted for 17-year-old cancer patient.
You may not know of a Golden Retriever that needs a home, but one of your friend’s friends does. Will you please spread the word about a young man who really needs some unconditional love — the kind of love that dogs are experts at giving? You may never know that it was your email, phone call, tweet, Facebook post or “water-cooler” conversation that led to a dog being found for Logan. But, we’re all going to feel great when Logan gets his forever friend.
Logan is 17 years old and his immune system is compromised. Logan’s doctor said that he can now have a dog, but the dog needs to be about a year old. Logan would like a male Golden Retriever. Cancer treatment is expensive, so we’re hoping that a dog can be donated.

Holly C. Corbett (Prevention, November 2011 found that, “Pets may do more than provide unconditional love— they may also help us heal. One study found that time spent with dogs decreased anxiety and despair levels in cancer patients, while another discovered heart attack and stroke patients with pets were more likely to survive one year after being released from the coronary care center. The Beverly Hills Cancer Center is now using Chiclet, a Miniature Doberman Pinscher that weighs just nine pounds and is only six inches tall, as one of their newest cancer-fighting weapons.” Chiclet’s human is Dr. Ari Gabayan, a cancer expert on staff at the Beverly Hills Cancer Center.
Dogs have been called “Man’s Best Friend.” Remember the quote attributed to President Harry Truman? “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.” Well, Washington State is a place where people help each other.
