One Peace, Many Paths is bringing the Compassion Games to the Spokane area Sept. 11-21.

This is an international effort to increase compassionate expressions and compassionate actions around the world. According to One Peace, Many Paths, to participate, you can perform individual random acts of kindness, become a Secret Agent of Compassion (register at www.compassiongames.org and receive an email mission each of the 11 days) and/or participate in a service project, either in conjunction with a group you are a  member of, or by contacting Joan Broeckling at 536-2811.  In addition to these options, there are a number of events scheduled focusing on compassion:

  • Compassion Games Opening Ceremony – Thursday, 7 p.m., hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W Fort George Wright Drive.  Meet the participating groups in the Compassion Games, take a compassion pledge, be inspired by perspectives on compassion from community members.  Music by Pamela Benton. Bring diapers or non-perishable food.
  •  Compassion Games “Let’s Keep it Going” Ceremony–  Sept. 21, 6 p.m,  hosted by the Center for Spiritual Living, 33rd and Regal. Join in establishing a group intention to sustain new levels of compassion. Potluck dinner at 6 p.m., followed by sharing storiess of compassion and reflecting on personal intenst for compassionate living.  The evening will culminate with the Honoring the Nations ceremony to mark the International Day of Peace.
  • Put it on the Compassion Map:  Everyone who participates in any way  (random acts of kindness, Secret Agent of Compassion, service projects, meditation, etc.) during the Compassion Games  is encouraged to go to www.compassiongames.org and enter their actions on the compassion map.

  • Meditation Marathon: Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S Perry.  Sept. 19-Sept. 20
  • Cooking for a Cause:  Benefit for Meals on Wheels.  Dinner & program, $50/person at Lincoln Center, Sept. 19.  Contact Allen Gilmour at Senior Action Network, 509-844-8964, for tickets.
