Beginning March 1, the Spokane Feminist Forum will provide the community with diverse feminist voices across generations and cultures on local, national and world news, politics and life, with regular-themed panel discussions, according to a press release.
The first panel discussion will be held at Boots Bakery & Lounge at 3 p.m., March 1. Guest speakers will discuss how women in their lives have inspired them and will also discuss what being a feminist means today.
The discussions will be moderated and facilitated by Kelly Mathews, a graduate of the anthropology and English programs at Eastern Washington University who recently finished her research project How Poets Build Community and was formerly the arts and culture contributor at KYRS news.
The Spokane Feminist Forum’s panelist of speakers include Kendel Froese, a director at the Center for Justice and adviser on the Lutheran Family Services Board, Joanne Smieja scientist in charge of the STEM program at Gonzaga, Karen Mobley, a respected artist who has mentored and nurtured countless artistic talent in our city, Ginger Ewing, co-founder of Terrain, Kitty Klitzke, campaigner and organizer for Complete Streets Spokane, Mariah Rose McKay, organizer with Washington Community Action Network, the Rev. Deb Conklin, from Liberty Park United Methodist Church, Spokane Faith and Values editor Tracy Simmons and Taylor Rose, organizer at the Spokane Oak Tree.
The next discussion in April with the upcoming spring holiday season will be Feminists and Faith.
