On Wednesday at 7 p.m, The Rev Paul-Gordon Chandler and Mohamed Abla, a contemporary artist from Egypt, will discuss the reciprocity between art and social ferment in Egypt.

Abla played an active part in the demonstrations that led to the Arab Spring and in the ongoing demonstrations through his involvement in public art.  He was appointed by Egypt’s interim president and military leadership to the 50-member Drafting Committee for the new constitution, representing all artists in Egypt, according to a news release.

His visit in Spokane is sponsored by Chandler, founder and president of CARAVAN, an initiative created as a catalyst to build bridges of understanding and respect between the creeds and cultures of the East and West through the arts.

The event, to be held in the Great Hall at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist is free. Nursery care is available.
