In honor of St. Francis of Assissi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, churches across the country will bless dogs, cats, turtles, birds, horses and other critters in his honor next month.

St. Francis Day is Oct. 4 this year and The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will have a Blessing of thet Pets on Oct. 7 at its 10:30 a.m. service.

According to the church website, “This liturgy is a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of God’s creation and the  loving companions God has   provided for our enjoyment.”

Pets should be leashed or in a cage. Pictures of pets can be brought in place of pets that are too difficult or large to bring to church.

Will you church be hosting a Blessing of the Animals service?”
