By Christi Ortiz

A man came to me in distress
angrily exclaiming,
“You think God exists?
Show me, where was God when my wife died?
Where is God when children are abused,
Where is God in war and famine?
Where is God? Asleep? Dead? Hiding?”

“Yes, these are great evils”
I paused in silence for a long while.
Seeing I was making no excuses,
the man’s anger passed and he sighed,
“Why does God not show Himself?”

And I asked him,
“If God were not hiding, would you seek Him?”
