Each November, communities around the country gather to remember those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice, known as transphobia.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20) began in 1998 to honor Rita Hester, who was murdered in Massachusetts.
In Spokane, a memorial will be held Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane at 5 p.m. The event will include a candlelight vigil, songs and then games to lighten the mood.
