On Jan. 31, KEEH-FM’s Don Godman hosted a 4-hour on-air fundraiser that raised more $21,000 to dig two new wells in a remote village in Guatemala.

With partner, Water for Life, and support from listeners, about 700 people in the village of La Compuerta at the top of a dry hill in Guatemala, will have a clean source of fresh water for their homes, according to a press release. Until now the villagers have been using water from a local pond.

“We take it for granted how easy it is here in the States to have access to clean water,” said Godman, a morning show host for Positive Life Radio. “Men, women and children being thirsty, have to choose to quench their thirst and risk dying from drinking the water from a dirty pond.”

He said by partnering with Water for Life, a Spokane non-profit organization co-founded by local welldrillers, he was reminded that Spokanites can partner with international ministries and make a difference.

“Once again, listeners displayed for us why we love living in the Inland Northwest. They continually step forward, reaching out to those who are in need of help and changing lives.” KEEH Station Manager Darin Patzer said in a press release, “When you learn that every day 15,000 people die, simply due to a lack of clean water, you realize this is an issue that God must really care about. These are his precious, little children. He puts on your heart that we each have a small part to play as stewards of the blessings He has given. An exciting lesson is that the more we give, the more He can pour through us.”

At each well that is built a plaque is placed that reads, “Funds for this well were donated by your Christian brothers and sisters — Listeners of Positive Life Radio, Spokane WA USA,” and ends with “Thank God for this clean water!!!”
