Tracy Simmons, founder and editor of FāVS News, has posted her pleas for donations to support FāVS News via emails and on the website, because she believes that reporting faith-based news is important — in fact, vital — for those who wish to remain informed about what is happening in the churches throughout Idaho and Washington state and how those activities impact the broader community.
FāVS News is also essential for those who seek to deepen their spirituality through the wisdom shared by more than three dozen columnists of many faith traditions.
Tracy’s passion for this effort has inspired many others — including myself — to donate their time and effort to the project. Other than the freelance reporters and a couple part-time staff members, no one is paid to contribute to FāVS.
If I may be so bold as to speak for the others: We do it because we understand the need for such a resource in this era when it’s almost impossible to find reliable news on almost any topic. (And, let me be honest, columnists for other religious publications can be paid anywhere from $50 to $200 per submission.)
Not to blow my own horn, but when I traveled to Moscow, Idaho, to give the Sept. 10 presentation, I paid all expenses out of my own pocket, donated copies of my book for those who wished to purchase them — with the proceeds going directly to support FāVS.
I designed an exclusive t-shirt for a special raffle, also to support FāVS. I did it because I believe in what FāVS can bring to the public forum and to the wider world.
