An Interfaith vigil will be held tonight at Veradale United Church of Christ in support of those protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Thousands of Native Americans have been camping out in North Dakota since the Spring to protest the pipeline. If it is built it would cross sacred burial grounds and the Missouri river — the main water source for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Last week the protests gained intensity when more than 100 people were arrested after moving their camp in the path of proposed construction.

According to an announcement from Veradale UCC, “This request comes from Standing Rock. If they requested clothes, we would send them. If they requested plates, we would send them. They request prayers, so join us in sending them. Please, bring a prayer to share.”

Rev. Gen Heywood will be traveling to Standing Rock this week and has offered to take written prayers and letters of encouragement from Spokane with her to give to Chairman David Archambault at the Standing Rock camp.

The vigil will be at 7:30 p.m.
