Sikhs hopeful on anniversary of shooting

One year after a gunman opened fire in a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., killing six worshippers, Sikhs say they are hopeful about the future and even more determined to be better understood.

U.S. Sikhs are taking heart in a widely publicized Senate hearing on hate crimes and a pledge by the Justice Department to consider tracking hate crimes directed at their community.
The hearing, on Wednesday (Sept. 19), featured Harpreet Singh Saini,18, whose mother was one of six Sikh worshippers killed Aug. 5 when a gunman opened fire in their Wisconsin temple.

Sikh Temple to host prayer vigil Wednesday evening

The Spokane community is invited to show their support for the local Sikh community and take a stand against hate Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Sikh Temple of Spokane.

A candlelight vigil will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. to honor the six people shot dead by Michael Page on Sunday at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.
