Sravasti Abbey — the Tibetan Buddhist monastery near Newport — will open its doors on Sunday Sharing the Dharma Day.
The monthly event offers an opportunity to explore meditation, hear a talk drawn from Buddhist teachings, share a vegetarian potluck lunch and enrich the experience through facilitated small-group discussion, according to the abbey.

The day-long event — including guided meditation, Chodron’s talk, a vegetarian potluck lunch and after lunch discussion—begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
Sravasti Abbey will resume its monthly Sharing the Dharma Day on March 10.
The day's topic, "“Precious Human Life and How to Use It Wisely,” will focus on teachings from Abbess Venerable Thubten Chodron's latest book, "Don't Believe Everything You Think," which is a contemporary commentary on a well-loved text of the Tibetan tradition that teaches how to transform life’s ups and downs into material for spiritual awakening.
Sharing the Dharma Day — Sravasti Abbey's monthly presentation of meditation, Buddhist philosophy and discussion — concludes its 2012 series on Dec. 2 with a survey of the various Buddhist Traditions.
According to a press release, the day will begin at 9:45 with tea a guided meditation will take place at 10 a.m., followed by a talk on the day's topic.
